Is nesscary use carbon cartridges for filter plate?
Yes, I have a filter plate, which is powered by an air pump. (Only 10-15 gallons I pump air into a tank of 29 gallons. But what makes the difference, since only must blow the same amount of air through 2 tubes) but when I put the carbon cartridges, it slows the flow of water filtration (bubbles depart every 2-3 seconds, I thought it went all the time and have a very good current). Then I read that if there is a good course through the cartridges cartridges are actully coal toxins in fish. So what should I do to help. Filter plate is still not cleaned the tank cartridges, or should I get a bigger air pump to help the flow of water through the cartridges? Please help …. A bottom filter requires an air pump for large moving water. Works by the air passing through the tube for drawing water thereby creating a suction through the gravel to draw the mulm fall into it. So yes you do need a larger air pump to operate properly. Carbon is fairly useless in the top of the bottom filter. They can actually be toxic, unless you change it every 2 weeks or more often. Charcoal has been really proved ineffective in any filter, except if you need medicines to remove or tannins. Save your money and do not bother with it. **
