A HEPA or High Efficiency Particulate Arresting filter is probably the most efficient filter you can buy. It can capture over 99% of the airborne particles that get pulled through it. An electrostatic filter is only slightly less efficient then a HEPA filter and is able to filter out over 90% of airborne particles. To add odor fighting capability to your air purification system you will need to consider an activated charcoal filter. While this type of filter will not do much for airborne dirt it will get rid of smells caused by smoke, cooking, pets, or other odor causing agents. If bacteria, germs, and viruses are a concern then consider adding a high intensity UV (Ultraviolet) lighting unit to your HVAC system. UV light neutralizes and kills these little nasty’s rendering them harmless and keeping you and your family safe from the sickness they can cause. As you can see there are several choices when it comes to choosing an air purifier. The important thing to consider is what level of filtration you need and make your final decision based on that.
