How do air purifiers emit ozone portable? IONIZER Is the coming of some?

We own several pet birds and have heard the ozone is bad for them. We heard the ozone layer is sometimes emitted by these air purifiers in the home that we use. Ours has a Swtich for anyone using or not using the ionizer. Can anyone tell us how ozone is generated and sent to our air purifiers air?

Only those with a tube UV in them. Ionization does not produce ozone.
