Cleaner Ozone
If you have a whirlpool or hot tub, it is important to understand that it requires a certain amount of owner maintenance to ensure it works properly and the water is kept clean and healthy.
The correct use of chemicals to keep water in a clean and healthy condition. The parameters that should be inspected regularly are, total alkalinity, pH and disinfectant (chlorine or bromine) level.
Your spa retailer or local spasa pool must be able to provide a suitable test kit and advice on proper use. It is advisable to test the water on a daily basis.

Change the water:
The spa water should be changed every three or four months, or remove and replace about 30% or 1 / 3 the volume of water every three or four weeks.
Total Alkalinity:
The total alkalinity should be in the range of 90 – 150 ppm (parts per million). A spa or hot tub with low total alkalinity would require constant adjustment of pH.
To increase total alkalinity, add sodium bicarbonate in small quantities. To lower total alkalinity, add acid (hydrochloric acid) in small quantities. Test in an hour.
The pH level:
pH is the measure of acid / alkaline water level. It is important to maintain the proper pH level, since the effects of the action of other chemicals.
The pH is measured on a scale of 1 to 14. Seven is neutral, below seven is acidic, and more than seven years is alkaline.
Incorrect pH levels can cause poor chlorine or bromine efficiency, eye and skin irritation, corrosion of metal fittings, cloudy water and scale formation in the walls of the pool and accessories. The pH should be always above 7.0 (measured at room temperature, not hot) to prevent possible corrosion of equipment. However, should not exceed to 7.8, as it would reduce the effectiveness of the disinfectant.
If the pH level should be increased, adding sodium carbonate, reducing the pH, add acid. Wait one hour and try again.
Disinfection SPA:
Disinfect the spa water is essential for safe, healthy, free of harmful organisms. The most common forms of disinfectants are chlorine and bromine. Ozone can also be used, but because there can be residual chlorine or bromine should be used in conjunction with it. Salt Water Chlorinators must have sufficient capacity to maintain the recommended chlorine residual.
The amount of disinfectant needed depends on a number of factors, including water temperature, frequency of use and number of people using the spa. It is very important to always keep the level of disinfectant at 2.00 to 3.00 ppm. In hot water disinfectant can be used very quickly and should be checked regularly while the spa is being used.
After extensive use of the spa or on a weekly basis, the water should be shock dosed with chlorine or bromine. Be sure to check the level again before use.
Is important to note that keeping the right pH and disinfectant levels, viruses and bacteria should not survive in water.
In terms of general hygiene, is important to maintain the filter and clean pump. Clean the filter regularly and empty hair and lint pump as often as necessary.
